Environmentally-conscious design competition

Article Abstract:

A design competition which will highlight the environmental impact of architectural design is being sponsored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Union of Architects (UIA). The competition aims to promote environmentally-aware building design, land use and urban ecology. The contest is open to designers, planners, architects and humanists. A grand prize of $50,000 will be awarded to the winner during the joint Congress of the UIA and the AIA.

Sony West Coast Design Center

Article Abstract:

Interior Architects had to work on a limited budget when it designed a studio for Sony's West Coast Design Center. To keep to the budget, IA left some interior structural elements exposed, specially lamped H.I.D. exterior fixtures were used for cost-effective lighting, and inexpensive glass panels were installed at the main presentation/conference room. Design Center believes that IA's design has created a studio that is refined and formal yet open and creative.

Design competition for small firms

Article Abstract:

The Institute of Business Design will sponsor the Will Ching, FIBD Design Award to provide an opportunity for young designers from small design firms to be recognized. The competition will include designers employed by or who own firms with less than five employees. Winners will be awarded during the NeoCon '93 exhibits which will be held in Chicago in Jun 1993.
