Design for readers! Why?

Article Abstract:

An assistant managing editor describes his conversation with the publisher of the newspaper for which he was working. Whilst the editor believed that his page, with its elegant design and typefaces, was a work of art, the publisher was dismayed that there was only one story on the page, which would, in his opinion, contribute to falling circulation figures. The editor was faced with the decision of changing the page or keeping his artistic integrity. He chose the latter, believing that art should not be traded for accessability.

How 3-D technology changed the fundamentals of teaching graphic design

Article Abstract:

A three-dimensional technology called ChromaDepth uses clear lenses with microscopic optics that transform colors from flat, two-dimensional images into three-dimensional holograms. ChromaDepth gave more graphic impact, even when the viewer is not wearing the glasses while the technology works on anything shown in color from newspapers, magazines to Web sites.

Meet Dingo the design dog

Article Abstract:

Michael Whitley adopted dingo the design dog, an 18-inch-tall ceramic coyote. This dog has been to more SND functions and workshops than any designer have ever attended.
