Jackson's organisation is production management intensive and more flexible by being smaller. His first products were luxury one-off items, and Jackson's products remain slick, despite his claim that there is an element of awkwardness in his works. He appreciates the media's power in selling products, with his designs entertaining as well as accomplished.

The Apple Computer Macintosh desktop computer offers a user-friendly and easily understandable graphic user interface (GUI). The desktop GUI was pioneered by researchers at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in the form of the 8010 Star Information System in April 1981. Star did not succeed commercially, and the Macintosh was launched in 1984, following a visit by Apple founder Steve Jobs to the Xerox Center. The Macintosh is discussed in slightly greater detail.
