Article Abstract:

The California Energy Commission amended the state building code to include provisions on energy usage in nonresidential buildings. Addition of the energy portion to the code has resulted in uniform kilowatt perhour capita consumption in the state of California compared to a 15% increase for the US. The code defines an area method which allows building designers to assess lighting power values to major areas of a building. The code also defines a complete building method which excludes vacant spaces from being factored into power usage allocation. The code also stipulates shut-off controland bi-level switching options.
