New York Cares makes good use of discarded office equipment and furniture by collecting these and turning them over to non-profit companies. This will enable these companies to acquire office furniture and channel their financial resources to more service-oriented undertakings. The various opportunities that presented themselves made the New York Cares management realize the need to make the venture into a full-time enterprise. The management plans to enhance its operations by inviting the participation of interior designers and furniture manufacturers to determine the best use of the different equipment.

Article Abstract:
Architect William McDonough has been involved in the development of a waste treatment facility in collaboration with the Hamburg Environmental Institute. The sewage treatment facility consists of a system of ponds, aquatic plants and fish to process waste water which will be channeled to another pond for fish to feed on the remaining nutrients. McDonough believes that the architect should be aware of natural cycles such as diurnal movements and symbiosis of plants and animals. The architect should design buildings which can eventually be reintegrated into the earth.
