Berkshire's Shaw House: a preservation plight

Article Abstract:

The 16th century Shaw House in the English county of Berkshire will require about $4 million to $5 million to restore. Built in 1581 by successful businessman Thomas Dolman, the house was transformed into a school in 1945 and was found to have serious structural damage in 1985.

The Lincklaen House is a Federal-style inn located in Cazenovia, NY. The inn was built in 1836 and was named after the town's founder John Lincklaen. The inn has 18 rooms and features neo-classical fireplaces, dentiled ceiling moldings and a 19th-century dining room.

The house of Captain Bangs Hallet on Strawberry Lane in Yarmouth Port, MA, is open to the public. The house contains paintings of clipper ships, portraits of sea captains and their families and some of Captain Hallet's personal items.
