Article Abstract:
The interior design of trains is becoming more adventurous and train companies are targeting designs at specific groups of clients. Long distance train travel is attempting to please a broader range of passengers. Examples of the new facilities considered are videos, business facilities, family areas and conference facilities. There is also the possibility of two tier trains. Train companies that are experimenting with new designs include Japan Railways, SNCF of France, the Swiss Federal Railway, Trans-Europe Express and Virgin plans to introduce changes if awarded a contract with British Rail.

Article Abstract:
Hans Dieter Reichert, Robin Richmond and Fendley, partners of Union design consultancy, believe that consultancies should take a harsher more critical approach when dealing with their clients. They should be more insistent in doing a project their own way. This attitude is a result of the difficult economic climate of the 90's, when value and efficientcy are important. Companies should concentrate on bringing in a younger generation of designers to their consultancies.
