Article Abstract:

Young Phineas Banning traveled from Wilmington, DE, to Los Angeles, CA, in 1851, and became one of its earliest settlers. With his business savvy and experience as a shipping clerk and packer, Banning envisioned, and realized, a port and a deepwater harbor for the city. Today, Banning's former home has been turned into the 1864 General Phineas Banning Residence Museum.

Pownalborough Court House

Article Abstract:

The Pownalborough Court House in Dresden, ME, was built in 1791 on top of the remains of a military fort constructed in 1752. It is currently maintained by the Lincoln County Historical Assn and is open to the public in the summer.
