Powell/Kleinschmidt Inc. learned what mistakes to avoid when designing for a confined space when it was asked by a Fortune 500 client to redesign its company jet. The firm chose to redesign the interior using a simple color combination of gray with red and blue accents to establish a dignified yet relaxing environment. The galley and the bathroom, on the other hand, were redesigned in stainless steel for a modern look and easy maintenance. The design firm also considered functionality, safety, economy and durability in choosing each material for the design.

New York School of Interior Design students participated in a design competition sponsored by the AFD Contract Furniture as part of the industry's efforts to incorporate interior design education with practical experience regarding development, presentation and selling of design concepts. The 1992 competition called for the development and execution of financial services office or a contract furniture showroom. The entries of Kirsten Sebastian and Lynne Holden and Yukiko Yoshida garnering the top awards.

San Francisco, CA-based RMW Architecture + Design renovated an old Coca-Cola bottling plant in San Francisco, CA, and turned it into the headquarters of the nonprofit Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties Inc. Aside from housing the organization's corporate headquarters, the 56,000-square-foot renovated building also features a vocational training center and a processing plant for the donated goods that the organization recycles through thrift shops across the country.
