Ads don't kill good design - lazy designers do

Article Abstract:

Most American newspaper designers do not agree with having advertisements in front covers, although this has been the standard in many countries. This prejudice caused designers to avoid learning how to work on pages with advertisements resulting in inconsistencies of designs found in newspapers. Two of the things to remember to succeed in designing are checking the advertisements and being kind to advertisers.

The dictionary meaning of the word creativity is to bring something into being but designers around the world say that being creative is to be different while being simple and being provocative while being surprising. Ten of the most creative geniuses give their views on creativity and what is it that gets them going.

Metropoli's bold cover approach: Deep covers

Article Abstract:

Rodrigo Sanchez's work with El Mundo's Metropoli won the Best of Show at the Society for News DesignEs Annual Workshop and Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1998. Rodrigo used the Metropoli flag as a key component in the designs, never failing to make every detail of the page an integrated part of the concept.
