A zen dragon

Article Abstract:

Architect Rick Mather incorporated Oriental influences in the interiors of the Now & Zen restaurant located in London's West End district. The central features of the design include a glass dragon made up of rough-cast glass bowls which stream water from one bowl to the next and a curving mezzanine. The graceful mezzanine contrasts with the glass, steel and bright lights of the interior. Colorful highlights consolidate the design from one level to the next, while providing the accent for certain areas.

Salon as sanctuary

Article Abstract:

Salon Ishi in midtown Manhattan, New York, NY, was designed by Fred Pirkey. The 2,600-sq ft salon contained rich and elegant detailing with western styles blending in with eastern influences. The walls were peach while the floor was made of pink and green marble tiles. The main styling salon, however, has red oak floors and walls to exude a more professional look. Incandescent pendant downlights illuminate each work station while round wall incandescent sconces provide ambient light.

Forties something

Article Abstract:

Jordan Mozer was inspired by San Francisco and Hollywood of the 1940s when he designed the interiors of the Cypress Club restaurant in California. The restaurant was divided into a main dining room, a private dining room, a bar and wine cellar tasting room by pudgy bronze columns and copper pillows. The dining rooms have overstuffed chairs in maroon velvet upholstery. All furniture and lighting fixtures were custom-designed by Mozer.
