Article Abstract:

Michael Turner has been awarded first place in Archaeology magazine's annual photography contest for his photograph of an abandoned hotel in Modena, Utah. Second place went to Trent Buckman for a picture of wine vessels in Pompeii, Italy. Honorable mentions were given to Sabrina Maras for a photograph of the Tomb of Amyntas in Telmessus, Turkey; Jane Darby for a photo showing a decorative vase in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy; and Constance Frisbee Houde for a photo of the ruins of an Inka granary near Ollantaytambo, Peru.

Prize pictures: winning entries in Archaeology's Fifth Annual Photography Contest

Article Abstract:

A photograph of the Maya site of El Rey, Cancun, Mexico, by Gerry Schallie has been awarded first place in Archaeology's Fifth Annual Photography Contest. The second place photo, by Patricia Kiesling Daurizio, is of Cuidadela, Chan Chan, Peru. Steve Jenness's third place entry is of the Capitolium, a Roman temple in Thugga, Tunisia. Honorable mentions were awarded for pictures of an Alaskan totem by Barry Herem. a Chinese guardian ram by Marvin S. Reese and a fountain in Siena, Italy, by Caroline Elo.

Prize pictures: winning entries in Archaeology's Third Annual Photography Contest

Article Abstract:

Michael Pape won first place in Archaeology's Third Annual Photography Contest with his picture of a Roman sculpture, the Bocca della Verita. Second place went to E.C. Kolakowski for an image of a ruined sugar mill in Belize. The head of a Buddha entwined in the roots of a tree in Thailand was the subject of the third-place photograph by Rodrigo Marquez Suarez. Honorable mentions went to David S. Molnia, Nancy Coinman and Francois Zugmeyer.
