Article Abstract:
Heinrich Schliemann's accounts of his discoveries at Troy, including the hoard he named the Treasure of Priam, are inconsistent. As a result it is uncertain exactly who was there when the treasure was found, what objects were included in the original find, the precise date of the discovery and the circumstances surrounding Schliemann's smuggling of the treasure out of Turkey. Two researchers, David A. Traill and Donald F. Easton, have tried to reconcile the testimony and evidence concerning the find, but many issues remain unresolved.
