Article Abstract:

Frank G. Speck, Assistant Curator of General Ethnology at the University of Philadelphia Museum invited Bata Kindai mgoza ibn LoBagola to perform dances and other rituals for University of Philadelphia Museum, where LoBagola claimed to be an African-American Jew descended from the Lost Tribes of Israel. However, in reality, LoBagola was Joseph Howard Lee and his creation of the persona of LoBagola was a daring and successful attempt to escape the life handed down to him as a son of slves in a coutry where segregation and discrimination were rampant.

Burial: Rituals of prehistoric forager-farmers in Borneo: The Neolithic cemeteries of Niah Cave, Sarawak

Article Abstract:

A primitive but anatomically modern human skull at the bottom of a deepest trench and rich cemetery of Neolithic graves was discovered along the front and northern edge of the Great Cave of the West Mouth in Sarawak, Malaysia. It shows that Neolithic cemeteries of Island Southeast Asia are an enormous rich source of evidence of how Neolithic societies buried their dead and viewed the world they inhabited.

Borneo and beyond: the adventures of Furness, Harrison, and Hiller

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the travels of Henry Furness III, Alfred C. Harrison, Jr., and Hiram M. Hiller, to collect artifacts and specimens for the University of Pennsylvania during the turn of last century. Although their primary destination was Borneo, they also voyaged to China, Japan, India, Thailand and Russia.
