Review of Aegean prehistory VII: neopalatial, final palatial, and postpalatial Crete

Article Abstract:

A survey of the literature on the archaeology of Late Bronze Age Crete reveals that excavation and new discoveries are outpacing publications. Publications should be devoted to materials and sites as well as domestic and nonelite architecture. Excavated artifacts such as jewelry should be examined in terms of context, technique, typology and representation. Furthermore, efforts to preserve Crete's archaeological heritage should be enhanced.

Review of Aegean prehistory VI: the palatial Bronze Age of the southern and central Greek mainland

Article Abstract:

Prehistoric studies on the Aegean Islands are reviewed with emphasis on the Late Bronze Age in southern and central Greece. Specifically, Mycenaean culture in the palatial age is examined. The time span includes the peak of Mycenaean culture during the 13th and 14th centuries B.C. which is known as the Late Helladic in terms of ceramic development. The rise and fall of the Mycenaean culture is also investigated.

Article Abstract:

The books, 'Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea: International Trade and the Late Bronze Age Aegean' by Eric H. Cline, 'Egypt, the Aegean and the Levant: Interconnections in the Second Millenium B.C.' by W. Vivian Davies and Louise Schofield and 'Avaris, Capital of the Hyksos: Recent Excavations at Tell El-Dab'a' by Manfred Bietak are reviewed. These books tackle the issue of interconnection using a traditional approach.
