Article Abstract:
The engine house where John Brown ended his raid on Harpers Ferry on October 16, 1859, has been moved and dismantled. It finally became a historic site (Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) in 1955. The brick structure, measuring 22 feet by 34 feet, is built near its original location in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. John Brown and his group of slave protesters gained control of this armory with the intention of arming themselves to overthrow slavery.

An African American photographer recounts a lifelong study of the culture and traditions of the Africans as mirror images of the ones with which he had grown up. He tried to reconnect with what his people had left behind so many centuries ago in Africa and, in so doing, discovered there the vast evidence of past civilizations.

Discovery of a garret room in a Brooklyn farmhouse showing how slaves lived and religious rites they followed during the during the 18th and early 19th century are discussed. Beneath the floorboards of the room were five corncobs placed in what could have been a ritual placement.
