Remarks on some objects from Umm el-Marra, 1994-1995

Article Abstract:

An archaeological expedition at Umm el-Marra, a Bronze Age urban center in the Jabbul Plain of Western Syria in 1994-1995 resulted in the finding of three examples of glyptic art which includes an alabaster amphoriskos with duck-head handles, a bronze ladle with bird-head handle and three 'Persian' terracotta figurines. Careful examination of these objects revealed that Umm el-Marra was influenced by the regional culture of northwest Syria and was also receptive to the cultures of the east and west.
