New exhibit opens to acclaim

Article Abstract:

The permanent exhibition 'Canaan and Ancient Israel' opened to a warm public reception at the University of Pennsylvania Museum in Philadelphia in Oct 1998. The exhibition showcases the archaeology of ancient Israel, Jordan and Lebanon, including pottery, weapons and statuary. Museum officials organized various activities such as symposia, lectures and tours in celebration of the exhibition's opening. The exhibition was made possible through the sponsorship of Resource America Inc, Archaeological Tours, the Israel Ministry of Tourism and the Hoxie Harrison Smith Foundation, among others.

A tree falls in Philadelphia

Article Abstract:

Groundbreaking for the University of Pennsylvania's Mainwaring Wing is described. Students obtained hands-on experience with ancient tools, as replica axes from 3500-year-old bronze technology were used to fell two of the trees which had to come down.
