Article Abstract:

Zeugma was a strategic city founded by Selucus I and a major economic center and transit point under the Romans, who bestowed on it extensive art, primarily mosaics. These mosaics are highly prized by looters today, who lift them off deep beds of mortar and smuggle them through nearby Syria. Modern Turkey is trying to stifle these thefts, but the pace seems to be increasing. The region's history and significance are briefly detailed.

Roman coin cache discovered

Article Abstract:

The Shapwick hoard, the largest cache of Roman silver coins ever discovered in the United Kingdom, is described. The coins were discovered by two amateur treasure hunters in a farmer's field near Glastonbury. They span the period from Mark Antony, 31-30 BC, to Severus Alexander, 222-235.
