Mapping Alexandria's royal quarters

Article Abstract:

Archaeologists have been able to map the submerged Royal Quarters of Alexandria's Great Harbor. A series of earthquakes had destroyed the royal quarters by the mid-fifth century AD. A team led by Franck Goddio of the Institut Europeen d'Archaeologie Sous-Marine has been working on the mapping since 1992. The site of the palace of Cleopatra VII has been identified on the island of Antirrhodos, which is now submerged. Mapping of the eastern harbor was mostly done by 1997, when the team started excavations on Antirrhodos.
