There have been numerous discoveries of Austrolopithecus afarensis skeletons and even older hom inid fossils but the fossil skeleton of Lucy retains her importance in the human fossil record. She is the highlight of the Houston Museum of Natural Science's exhibit, "Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethio pia"

Archaeologist Terry Jones and Kathryn Klar have marshaled a new evidence for a Polynesia-California connection with reference to the canoes. Among many of the evidences some archaeologists argue that the tomol made possible to the complexity of Chumash culture.
