Article Abstract:
Kenneth S. Goldstein's interest in folk music began with union songs. This gradually developed into a passion, which is discernible in all that he did as a folklorist most especially in the records that he produced. In records production, he not only did the technical part, doing some of the early recordings at home, but also wrote the text of the album notes. These notes are gems; they are personal, enthusiastic and scholarly without being dull. They add further value to his already priceless work: the folk music records.

Folklorists have not been able to conduct extensive studies of traditional instrumental music because some of the musics are in languages which are not well-known. The classification of traditional musics are provided to denote the identities of nations, histories, ethnicities, regions, symbolic constructs and social classes. The concept of classification is discussed in two outstanding recordings of traditional music. These are 'Bandoneon Pure: Dances of Uruguay' by Rene Marino Rivero and 'Tanburi Cemil Bey.'

Article Abstract:
One ethnomusicologist was able to use his musical ability on the violin in his research when he learned to play the banjo and join group performances for his study on bluegrass music in Indiana. The researcher was regularly invited to perform with various bluegrass groups which allowed him to study the milieus for this type of music. Thus, the researcher acknowledges the necessity of personal involvement in his field.
