Goods, graves, and scholars: 18th-century archaeologists in Britain and Italy

Article Abstract:

Sir William Hamilton, British envoy at the Court of Naples in Italy and a strong critic of the excavations, believed that the methods used by workmen in the diggings were erroneous, although his own behavior was sometimes inconsistent with the views he expressed to others.
