A change in the J. Paul Getty Museum's acquisitions policy permits the museum to acquire the $80 million antiquities collection of Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman of New York. The provenance of objects is not understood in this case as where the objects are found, but is rather an established ownership history. Objects need to be part of established collections before purchase, and the Fleischman collection qualifies.

Survey of a fleet of obsolete and captured warships was assembled for atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in 1946 is described. Destruction from the detonation of bombs beneath and above the fleet, radiation levels for the remaining shipwrecks, and the effects of the atomic bombs are recounted. Radiation levels of much of the atoll's environment remain too high for people to live there safely.
