Ethnologist Patricia Rieff Anawalt concludes from her studies that the garments worn by the Prehispanic and modern day people of Central America reveal their Mesoamerican past. Her research involves a combination of ethnology, archaeology, linguistics, iconography, modern ethnography, and textile technology. She has deciphered the significance of designs on the cloaks of Aztec emperors.

The pathological collector Alex Jordan is described, who built a Wisconsin house in 1947 to accommodate his diverse artifacts. These included self-playing instruments, Tiffany-style lamps, guns and glassware. With time, Jordan even started mixing the authentic and the inauthentic and began to invent histories for the items he bought or made.
