Article Abstract:
Butrint in Albania is a remarkable destination for archaeologists as archaeology there mirrors the major political movements of the twentieth century right from monarch and fascism to communism and democracy and it is also a central witness of the major power struggles that shaped the history of the Mediterranean. The various periods of archaeology in Butrint is a showpiece of Albania's new tourist economy with the establishment of the Butrint National Park which gets around 50,000 visitors a year.
