A survey conducted by PR Week Publications LTD indicated that about 25% of PR firms that responded believe that they are being lied to by the firms that hire them. The firms who said that they had been compromised amounted to 52%. The top executives of PR firms presented varied reactions to the issue of lying in their businesses. Some said they never encountered an instance when a client asked to lie nor were they lied to. Others said they would never compromise their ethics and would refuse take assignments if they were asked to lie.

Video and production companies in the Pennsylvania region have had some measure of success with their advertising in 1998. Some companies, on the other hand, have continued relying on word of mouth. For instance, the Scriber Video Center, a non-profit media arts center in Philadelphia, has begun advertising in community newspapers in addition to its direct marketing efforts. With a contrasting strategy is the Philadelphia Film and Video Association, which depends mostly on word of mouth and its monthly newsletter.
